Is AI Influencing Your Writing?

Are we losing our unique voice to AI?

I recently joined KNX News LA 1070 AM as a featured guest to discuss the intersection of AI and writing, and why relying too heavily on automated tools is turning business content into AI slop.

When algorithms flatten our language and strip away our personality, we lose exactly what makes us distinct.

KNX News producer Donald Morrison asked me a very interesting question: “When it comes to writing, are we training AI or is AI training us?” The truth is, both.

Thanks to AI, most of us have changed the way we communicate. Some no longer use em dashes, semicolons, or words like delve or compounding. Our initial reaction was to steer clear of AI tells, like “it’s not X, it’s Y.” But I say lean into your voice, now more than ever. Human writing—our stories and experiences—distinguishes us from AI-generated noise. It’s why even the companies that invented these AI tools are paying up to seven figures for Storytellers.
